   I bought this hammock with the tarp and bug net and I’m super glad I did. It’s not as light as my friends warbonnet setup, but it was $200 less so I can’t complain.

   I’d love to be able to afford to buy a decent 4 season hammock. I used to own one called Hieha, was a gift from my sister. Unfortunately never was able to get it set up for a couple reasons: didn’t come with instructions, so I was so confused with the netting and cordage etc. but then I ended up losing it, my sister and everything we owned In a house fire. Sorry for being so tragic I’m not sure why I even bother to write a comment here other than I’ve always wanted a hammock that I could get off the ground I’m and I miss my sister.

   Derek,

   Really appreciate your website as I’m working to get my kids ready for backpack hammock camping. I’m trying to decide between which hammocks to buy for them (Ages 12, 10, and 9), but am having trouble deciding. I would very much like to have one, maybe two, of the little ones hanging above me.

   I’m strongly considering the One Wind Northers Double-Layer for the price and for the fact that it is double-layered. I want to be able to put a sleeping pad under my kids so that they don’t get too cold. I also like the double-layer for the defense against bugs.

   What are your thoughts?

   What do your kids use?

   Hey Derek – thanks for all your great content! I’m pretty new to hammocks and have found it really helpful.

   I saw your video about the Onewind Blackthorn tarp/tent, and I was wondering – is there any reason that tarp couldn’t be double or triple internal pole modded to make a cavernous storm mode winter tent w/ doors (zippered ones at that!) for a crazy low price? I’m not a great shape rotator but it seems like it would basically be the same setup as the default one with all the tieouts, but with the poles doing the work instead, and making a round shape rather than ~house shape.

   I might be silly for wanting this, but I really want a winter tarp with pole mods that can touch the ground when pitched without needing to be lowered so much that it’s annoying to move around under, and unless I’m missing something that seems to point to quite a wide tent – from my math, this one is 12×16?

      Yes I’m sure you could add pole pockets. It will change the geometry somewhat but doable.
