Setting up the Hangtime Hook – Hammock ridgeline accessory

Overview

I’ve been using the Hangtime Hook for some time now, beginning with the original 3D-printed prototype and now the final injection moulded production model. This ridgeline accessory is designed to easily clip onto a ridgeline and slide back and forth. It features a standard 17 mm ball joint that works with multiple accessories, such as:

While the basic features are present, the final model includes a hook on the end that fits a cord lock that can help hold the accessory in place on the ridgeline.

Thoughts

As promised, the final production model is now available and it is fantastic! I really have no major complaints. The only “challenge” is getting the cord lock onto your ridgeline, which is optional but recommended. If you have a hammock with a built-in ridgeline, it may require a bit of work to remove the ridgeline, add the cord lock, and connect the ridgeline again. Some hammocks area easier than others. If you don’t want to use a cord lock, adding a rubber band or tying a slider knot (my preference) is easy to do.

In the past, I just hung a smartphone with a rubberband on a ridgeline. It works in a pinch, but it doesn’t offer much adjustment or viewing options.

  1. Derek,

The magnetic mount you’ve linked to is a vent clip model not a ball joint. Don’t think that will work with the HTH.

The HTH is a great little device. The injection molded version is a vast improvement over the original 3D printed version.

One should note that if you buy from Warbonnet the cord lock will not be included. Dutch does include it. Not sure about other vendors. If that’s an issue for people they should double check before buying.
