Air Nest Inflatable Hammock Lounger Review

Air Nest Inflatable Hammock Lounger

I got the chance to test another inflatable hammock lounger recently that has some unique features that make the recliner a little more comfortable and stable.

Product Description

The Air Nest inflatable hammock is another in a long list of comparable products. What makes the Air Nest stand out is the unique squared back design. This adds some stability to the lounger, compared with other brands that use a simple, tub-style form factor. Tie-down loops and stakes are a nice touch to keep an unoccupied lounger from blowing or rolling away, and the side pockets are handy.

Overall Impressions and Updates

These inflatable couches are really a lot of fun and entertaining. The square back on the Air Nest really adds some needed support and is hands-down a better experience for this category of camp accessory. The back lifts up sufficiently to create a nice head rest. I never used the tie-downs, but it is nice they are there, just in case.

On one camping trip at a lake, I was tempted to try floating the lounger, but since it was late fall and the water was frigid, I opted out (you know, just in the off chance I fell in). This is one thing I’d like to try this coming summer.

The company boasts a 12-hour inflation time. In my own experience, these bags leak sufficiently after about two hours to be less comfortable. When I first reviewed this style of lounger, I was hopeful to try sleeping in one, but they leak air too quickly for not much more than a short nap. Still, they are really convenient to bring to a car camping trip or event where you don’t want to lug around bulky chairs but still want a cozy place to sit. The shoulder string carry bag makes it pretty easy to carry the lounger around.

Filling up the bags is not always as easy as claimed. I found it easier if there is a bit of a breeze. In these cases, the loungers inflate very quickly. With still air, I end up running around, holding the lounger open in an attempt to force some air in.

Construction and Craftsmanship ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Better materials than other brands, but the plastic hardware is lower quality.
Modularity ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ A good base. The lounger can be used in a variety of places, including floating on water (with caution: the tube isn’t 100% air-tight and slowly leaks, so be cautious).
Aesthetics ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Comes in a variety of colors
Price and Value ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ A little more expensive than other brands, but comes with additional features such as the squared bottom for more stability, side pockets, and better materials

  1. Derek, I have been interested in these for awhile but my biggest concerns is how well the will hold to a group of Boy Scouts? As you know some scouts can be very hard on equipment. How puncture proof are they and is it easy to patch/repair once punctured or torn? How many can sit on it at a time and be comfortable or is really just meant for a single person? One more thing length says 7ft yet what height of a person is recommended for max comfort?

    1. Dennis, in the photos on this post you’ll see a few of our scouts having fun in the lounger. I think it would be great for scouts. The outer nylon covering helps protect the inner air chamber from getting punctured (just don’t set up next to cactus). For just messing around, I’d probably get a less expensive version (there are plenty of off-brands to choose from).

    2. As for the length, that was just measured when deflated. It will shorten a little, but also realize that you lay across and inside, sort of like a regular hammock, so even tall folks (6 ft) will be fine.
