Equipment Used

  • 6×6 @ 10 ft (3 m) long
  • Post hole digger
  • Drill with ½ in (1.27 cm) drill bit
  • Eyebolt with washer and nut.

The trees were not spaced correctly for backyard hang…so we used use a 6×6 post!

OK.. don’t settle for trees too close together for a decent hang if you are going to hang your hammock out in your backyard. Measure the proper distance for your hammock setup. For us it was 17 to 20 feet (5 to 6 m). We measured the distance left and right from the same center tree (so my wife and I could both hang out). Dig a 3 ft (1 m) deep hole with a post-hole digger and sink your 10 ft (3 m) long 6×6 down into the hole the full 3 ft (1 m). Drill a ½ in (1.27 cm) diameter hole 6 in (cm) down from the top and install the 10” long eyebolt, washer and nut.

BAM.. you are ready to hang.

It took us under an hour to dig the holes, drill and install the eyebolts, and drop the posts into the holes.

We setup our hammocks and tarps and hung out the very same evening!!!

Brief and succinct background info:

We love hammock camping in the woods, but sometimes we just pop out into the backyard for a ‘get away’, kinda like a stay-cation. Complete with a Firepit, coffee on the alcohol stove, etc. But our trees were too close together…so we fixed that with a quick 6×6 post.
