Product Description
The Chill Gorilla Pro Tarp is a hex-style tarp with four perimeter tie-outs and two ridgeline tie-outs. The perimeter is edged and there are metal grommets on each tie-out point. The fabric is polyester with a generous PU coating. The tarp comes complete with guyline, plastic line locks, four aluminum stakes and stuff sacks.

Overall Impressions and Updates
When I first opened the tarp I was accosted by a strong chemical smell. I had to air out the tarp a few days before I could really get too close to it. When I spoke with the manufacturer, they told me it was related to the PU coating. They pride themselves on their waterproofing process, but they admitted some batches probably get packaged up without airing.
The tarp itself is generously sized: the ridgeline is 142 inches long and the side panels are 54 inches wide each. The tarp held up well to some wet, sticky snow, and with a tight storm pitch, works well at shedding snow as well. This really is a great bargain tarp for new hammock campers. It provides a lot of coverage and room. You could easily stack or V-up two hammocks underneath.
The plastic hardware is usable, but it isn’t my favorite. I find these line locks are tricky to use in the field and provide limited adjustability. For my part, I would remove them and prefer using knots.
Recommendations and Review
Criteria | Rating | Notes |
---|---|---|
Suspension and Anchor System | ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ | The guyline has tracers and is tough and durable for most uses. I’m glad it includes the stakes as well! |
Construction and Craftsmanship | ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ | Very good construction with taped seams. |
Modularity | ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ | A hex tarp is one of the best, most versatile designs for hammock camping. |
Aesthetics | ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ | Black is a good neutral color, but there aren’t other options. |
Price and Value | ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ | This one is hard to pin down because while the MSRP is on par with similar tarps on the market, it is sold discounted nearly everywhere I look. |

Disclosure of material connection: The author (Derek Hansen) was provided with a free sample from the manufacturer for testing and evaluation purposes. The comments in this post (written & spoken) are of my own opinion, which I formed after personally handling the gear. I was under no obligation to publish a review of this item.
Can you verify this seller? I just saw a legitimate review on YouTube and started to give some product suggestions because the YouTube poster referred to him as a U.S. Marine.
There is nothing about any of hos links, contacts, webpages, YouTube Profile, etc. that make me feel right about it. Apparently the tarp is good. But I can’t promote, nor should you promote, anyone that would lie like that. If you have any good info, and this dude is legit, then awesome!! I’m doubting it at this
point though.
I’d have to check again, but if you are seeing issues, then avoid. There are a lot of copy cat hammock resellers these days, so best to stick with a known / established brand.
