I wouldn’t recommend just a space blanket. I’ve tried them as an outer cover with limited success. The best option for a space blanket or bag is as a vapor barrier inside your sleeping bag. Works great. But comes with its own challenges. An under quilt is your best bet for winter hammock camping. There’s no other really good solution believe me.

Im considering to buy a supershelter, but i find the foam pad to bulky for my bikepacking setup. Have you tested the undercover with just a SOL reusable space blanket and no pad ? I dont camp in winter, i would need the set up to hold heat to 5/10’C..
Thanks a lot

I have had success with this method.
Fold the foam in thirds. Roll tightly.
Turn the stuff sack inside out. Leaving one end of it closed. Then “unroll” the sack over the tightly rolled foam pad. Once you do it. It’s magic. It fits.
I hope this helps.

Great question! I don’t use the stuff sack. It’s a cool sack, which I’ve used for other gear, but it’s always been easier for me to just form the pad in a roll and put it into my pack. It helps form the pack and protects it while hiking and doesn’t require the force (and tear potential) of the stuff sack. I hope this helps.

Let alone if u can with out puncturing the pad ? Tried few times but was afraid to ruin pad.

Yes, don’t grab the pad when weight is on it! It will rip. I ripped a hole in mine doing the exact same thing!

The foam pad did its job although it ripped when I tried to adjust it from inside my hammock. The under cover worked great so I will use it in addition to a summer series UQ. Help keep moisture from splashing up onto my UQ.

No worries bro, I just saw those weights and couldn’t believe it.
