In reply to Abigail. I always cut my end tie-outs at least 6 feet long to accommodate big trees, even if they aren't too far apart, you need to wrap around something.

Hello! I’m excited to have found this idea for pitching a tarp. I am hoping to make a 8×10 tarp with tie-outs in this configuration. How far from the end would you estimate the asymmetrical tie-out point is? From the illustration, it looks like around 2.5 ft.

Nice! It does omit the most common pitch I use with my 8×10′ tarp with a hammock, which is to pitch it diagonally so I get more end coverage with my longer hammocks.

In reply to patrick. When sleeping diagonally you don't need that other tie out. Save weight and set up time. This is talking about a narrow rectangular tarp. If the tarp was wider, than yes that fourth tie out can help.

curious why not use 4 tie outs on the sides instead of 3? that would let you have a hex shape tarp plus doors on the end?
