Try 3/8″ mainsheet line sold at West Marine or a similar place. It’s rated high enough for hammocks, is very low stretch, and is available in white. (I like line I can see at night.) I used mainsheet line with SMC rings all summer (2022) without problems.

Thanks Ted. I’ll have to give a single turn a try. The double turn works better with slick cord like Amsteel. You can find Spectra cord from rope climbing stores, including REI.

I’ve been using a Hennessy ULBP for years and have tried a number of suspensions. The Garda Hitch with two SMC rings is by far the best I’ve found. I noticed in your guidance that you use two turns around the rings before passing the line between them. I’ve been using one turn with no problems but decided to try it with two. The sheathed Spectra I used locked up tight with two turns and was difficult to undo. I think it’s because the sheathed Spectra grabs a little better than the slicker Amsteel. Anyway, I’m back to one turn with a safety half hitch.

Also, can you recommend a source for replacement Spectra? Thanks.

Ted

It seems they recommend using a triple fishermans knot for making a loop which seems odd to me. My tree strap has a fixed loop which I larks headed the amsteel on. For the titan would it be reasonable to just use a double sheet bend or becket hitch to the tree strap loop then use the descender rings on the hammock side cl? Seems that would keep things clean and seems it would keep me off the ground.

I don’t know if you’ve tried them yet but I used my GM rings last night and they worked great. Hope this helps.
