Unfortunately, I think you are right. I don’t know if you are a DIY sort of guy, but these kinds of stands are super easy to build, especially the Turtle Dog style. If you want to purchase, I highly recommend the Tensa Stands. They are my go-to for packable and portable stands and they have so many options now to choose from.

Very late to the party on this one, but I’ve seen your recommendation for the Byer of Maine Vario many times on the site… unfortunately since these recommendations were made it appears the Vario was discontinued. Have you found an alternative that works as well? I’ve tried many and have yet to find one that provides the height required for my larger camping hammocks. There are several camp grounds in my area that don’t allow hanging anything from trees, so I’m in search of a good alternative for these types of scenarios.

It would be a tight fit. I’d recommend a Vario stand because it’s adjustable.

Non-portable? Sink a few 4×4 studs in the ground with some cement 🙂 The Vario stand is one of the best I’ve found so far for Mayan hammocks.
