Review – KAMMOK Roo and Python Strap 2018 Upgrade

KAMMOK Roo Double and Single and Python Straps

Kammok has done an extraordinary job jumping into the hammock market and growing their business. They have become one of the top brands for recreational and serious hammock camping. Earlier this year they came out with an update to their entire line of equipment and I got a chance to review a few of those pieces: the KAMMOK Roo (a double hammock), the KAMMOK Roo Single, the KAMMOK Python Straps, and the KAMMOK Python Strap Extenders.

There are refinements across each product in nearly every area: fabrics, accessories, updated designs, packaging, and more. I really like the new packaging: it’s simplified yet very professional; easier to access and pack than previous versions. The hammocks include tie-out loops along the long edge perimeter and a single loop on the gathered ends. I found these loops handy for clipping under quilts and side pull outs to open up the fabric.

The ROO Double still has a multi-panel design. It’s wide and comfortable, but some might find the seam somewhat annoying. The ROO Single is a single panel design.

The biggest change and what I’m most excited about with the 2018 upgrade are the new Python straps. The design is similar to the Ultimate Straps that feature a woven (not sewn) design. This means the straps have a nice wide section that helps protect the trees, but then tapers down to a 3/4-inch daisy chain section that’s more material efficient. It’s such a brilliant design and I’m stoked that KAMMOK is using it. The straps are some of the lightest but also tout the highest weight rating per strap of any strap on the market (500 lbs). These are my new go-to hammock straps that are ideal for new and veteran hangers alike.

Kammok sells the straps separately from the hammock, although I’ve seen bundles from them in the past where you can pick up a discount. I completely understand that selling them separately is important for business and consumers, but I’d like to see a package deal that gives a slight discount for those new to hammocks.

Prices overall are slightly higher than mass-market variety, but the quality and refinements also put this gear in a higher category. The quality, along with KAMMOK’s lifetime warranty, and eco responsibility, provides a value and peace of conscious when considering this purchase.

    1. Thank you. For hammocks I would set up posts between 11 and 12 feet apart. This will provide ample room for all your hammocks plus a tarp if you choose. I have all the instructions in my new book.
